Giouvarlakia with Tomato Sauce


For giouvarlakia

  • 500 gr. minced beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup white rice uncooked
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

For the sauce

  • 3 large ripe tomatoes or 1 can (400gr) tomato puree
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • Chilli pepper
  • Salt and pepper



Place all the giouvarlakia ingredients into a large bowl. Knead mixture until smooth and shape into round balls.


In a large pot, add all the sauce ingredients and bring to boil. Taste the salt, pepper, and chili and adjust. Lower the heat to medium. Add the uncooked giouvarlakia to the sauce and let cook for 30-45 minutes.
